Exclusion

Specify the number of days by which to control a diminished list from which to generate a random selection.

If you enter 'n' days in the Exclusion Option, then any entry in the base list selected or tested within the last 'n' days will not be considered for the current selection. Depending on the option selected, the exclusion is controlled by last selection or last tested date.  When you enter No. Days, the last selected Date is displayed.  If you enter a date, the number of days is determined and displayed.

For example, enter 30, to exclude anyone selected or tested within the last 30 days.

Two additional options help control this feature:
  • Only if Collected

  • Not Alternates

Only if Collected

If this option is checked, an individual entry will be excluded if and only if a test sample was previously collected. The date the sample was collected is not used to determine exclusion.

If an individual entry was previously selected, but a test sample was not collected, for whatever reason, then the individual will not be excluded from the current selection.

If this option is NOT checked, an individual will be excluded if previously selected within the number of exclusion days specified, regardless if a sample was collected.

Not Alternates

This option controls the exclusion of alternates when the "Only if Collected" option is not checked.  If the "Only if Collected" option is not checked then everyone previously selected within the specified number of exclusion days will be excluded, regardless if a sample was collected.

When "Not Alternates" is checked, individuals previously selected as alternates will not be excluded, provided a sample was not collected.  When a sample is collected for an alternate, the alternate is not considered merely as an alternate.

Note: When the "Only if Collected" option is checked, alternates for whom a sample was collected, will be excluded if the previous date is within the number of exclusion days specified.

Each entry that's excluded from the selection is flagged with an 'x' in the 'X' column.  If you exit the selection control without generating a selection, the excluded entries will maintain the display of their excluded status, however, the staus is not saved with the base list, however, the exclusion status is saved with the duplicate list record preserved as a selection audit document.  The exclusion column ('X') is sortable.

Exclusion Date

When the number of exclusion days is specified, the corresponding exclusion date is displayed. The exclusion date is determined by adding the number of exclusion days to the currently displayed selection date.   Anyone previously selected or tested BEFORE the exclusion date is eligible for selection. Anyone selected ON or AFTER the exclusion date and BEFORE the date currently displayed in the Selection Date control is excluded for the selection.

If an exclusion date is entered, the number of resulting exclusion days is calculated.  The exclusion date must be on or BEFORE the currently displayed selection date.

Exclusion & Selection Control for Individual Pool Members

Some consortium members may want to control for higher testing percentages than mandated.  Exclusion will allow you to comply with mandated selection requirements and control for higher percentage targets requested by an individual member.

When a consortium member company asks for higher testing percentages and wants to control its mandated and non-mandated testing at the same time, the complication is how to not select an individual twice for the same testing period.  Exclusion provides the solution to this requirement.

If you generate the selection for the consortium and the individual member on the same day:
First, generate the random selection from the entire consortium as mandated and be certain to save the selection to its history file. Then generate a selection for the individual consortium member and specify the number of exclusion days as one (1).  Anyone selected from the consortium (pool), will not be selected when drawing from the individual member list.

In general:
First, generate the random selection from the entire consortium as mandated.  Then generate a selection for the individual consortium member and specify the exclusion date as the last selection date of the consortium draw.  Anyone selected from the consortium ( pool), will not be selected when drawing from the individual member list.
